Joint Appointments

It is common for S&T professors to seek a formal affiliation with a unit outside their home department, whether due to research interests, teaching interests, or alignment with that unit's mission. Faculty interested in pursuing a 0% joint appointment with another unit should first speak with their own chair, then approach the leader of the secondary unit. If the secondary unit votes to approve the appointment, the template letter below is completed — typically by a member of the dean's office staff — and routed for approval signatures. Please contact Faculty Affairs with any questions about this process or to request a sample agreement letter.

The template can be found by clicking here. You will be required to log in with your SSO and can download the template.

Joint appointments or joint titles as used herein shall mean either term or continuous appointments to at least one regular academic staff position as defined in Section 320.070 in more than one academic department, research unit, extension or other administrative unit.
